David Graham ..aka Dave to his mates at the Rutland Velo club has completed his challenge to cycle to every Church of England Cathedral in England during the year 2015.
Dave cycled to 42 cathedrals on his list stretching from Newcastle and Carlisle in the north, to Canterbury and Truro in the south.
Why I hear you ask would someone spend in the order of 24 days in the saddle cycling roughly 100 miles a day ?
As good as Dave's love of early gothic ecclesiastical architecture is, (and his knowledge is now much enhanced) he has completed this undertaking in memory of his brother Allister Graham, a fun-loving, friendly guy who loved life but unfortunately suffered for many years with mental health problems. Sadly, these problems overcame Allister in 2008 when he died at 32 from a drug overdose.
By completing this Cathedral challenge in Allister's memory Dave hopes to raise as much money as he can for the charity ‘Rethink Mental Illness’. This fantastic charity supports people and their families with serious mental health problems. Sadly 1 in 4 people in the UK is affected by mental health issues in some way or another. Dave's hope is that all the money raised will go in some way to help other people having to deal with this difficult problem.
WELL DONE DAVE !!!
